Maintaining Your Assurance Wireless Account
You have applied for an Assurance Wireless phone and have received it. Great, congratulations! You now can save several hundreds of dollars over the course of the year on your cellular phone charges. But things are different now. Over the past year or so, there have been some significant changes to the way that the Assurance Wireless program is run to ensure that everyone can use the program who is eligible to. Now more than ever, it is important to maintain your account properly in order to keep your Assurance Wireless account active. We will outline some important parts below, give you some helpful tips on maintaining your account and tell you what to do when things go wrong. Some of these tips must be carefully followed or customers will lose their valuable service.
Assurance Wireless Annual Re-certification
What is re-certification?
To root out fraud, the Federal Communication Committee (FCC) has taken steps to reduce the amount of duplicate and fraudulently obtained phones under the Lifeline Assistance Plan that supports Assurance Wireless. One of the changes that affects all customers is the need for all customers to recertify that they still are eligible for service, that they are still receiving benefits under a government assistance program, or that their income is still below the guidelines set by their state.
How do I complete the Assurance Wireless Annual Recertification?
Assurance Wireless makes it very simple to complete this task and you can do it in one of 4 ways.
The fastest way is online. If you have access to the internet, go to their website and click on the recertify link on their home page. All you need is your Assurance Wireless phone number, your account PIN, your date of birth, your social security number, your address and the name of the governmental assistance program you participate in and/or your household income amount.
If you don’t have access to the internet, or have forgotten your account PIN, you may recertify your Assurance Wireless phone by calling 888-321-5880.
Assurance Wireless will mail reminders to all customers who must recertify. If you have received one of these notices, you may complete and return it in the postpaid envelope to complete your certification.
You may also choose to return the annual reminder that you received in the mail by fax. The fax number is 877- 732-3018.
As of right now, customers who received their phones after June 1, 2012 do not have to recertify at this time, but customers who received their phone prior MUST recertify to keep their accounts active.
Issues with an Assurance Wireless Phone
Is there any Assurance Wireless Insurance for my phone?
Not really. The manufacturers of the phones that Assurance Wireless provides, give a one-year warranty on the phones that Assurance Wireless customers receive. Therefore, if your phone breaks within one year of receiving it, you can call the company at 888-321-5880 and they will help you get an Assurance Wireless replacement phone. So even though Assurance Wireless itself doesn’t provide the insurance or the warranty, they do assist you get a new, working phone.
My phone is lost!
Who hasn’t this happened to! Most of us from time to time will lose a cell phone at some point during our lives. But it is particularly important for Assurance Wireless customers to report the lost phone quickly. Obviously, you don’t want someone else using your minutes and available balance, but also if no one recovers the phone and a call is not made within 60 days, your account will be suspended and you will lose service. So if you are the owner of an Assurance Wireless lost phone, call 888-321-5880 to have your account put on hold.
How do I check my Assurance Wireless Balance?
You may check your balance online by going to the Assurance Wireless website and clicking login at the top-right of the screen, you’ll see Login. Clicking that will bring you to a prompt on the virgin Mobile website. Type in your phone number and your account PIN, and you will be able to see your balance.
How do I download ringtones for my Assurance Wireless phone?
Repeat the process for logging on to your Assurance Wireless account as found in the step above. Once logged in you will be able to purchase and download ringtones. Assurance Wireless does not support ringtones from outside sources to protect their customers from viruses and other malicious software.
I didn’t receive my monthly minutes. What should I do?
It could be a few things wrong. You should make sure that your account is in good standing or there could be another technical matter. Call the Assurance Wireless Customer Service at 888-321-5880, for help.
